Just bought a 801 Power Master 841 series and just not real familiar with these tractors. I got manuals ordered but don't have the patients to wait for them. Sorry for asking such a peanut butter headed question but does the transmission and hydraulics and PTO used the same oil? I see what I guess Is a fill or sight cap on top by the shiftier and then another on top of the rear housing kinda behind the seat. There is a dipstick close to the PTO Shiftier, does that check the oil for the rear, the transmission, the PTO and the Hydraulics? I can't get the lift arms in the back to work. Do I have to engage anything to make the lift arms work? I know these are pretty Lame questions but I do thank you for your time and any help you can give me.

diggy and tranny have a fill level plug, hyds has a stick. tranny is a plug by the right heel. it's a plug, not a bolt. don't pull any bolts out the side of the tranny, or you will be writing back with reverse idler problems. the diffy has a plug near the pto shaft.
3 separate sumps.
yes, you can put a m2c134 compatible UTF oil in all 3 sumps.

'diggy' Now that's a new one!
There is a third fill plug under the seat for hydraulics.
You may, as souNdguy suggested, use M2C-134-D or equivalent in all 3 sumps. I'd definitely use it in the hydraulics. However, my preference in the rear end and transmission would be 80W-90 gear oil.

As to your 3 point, that could be anything from low or dirty hydraulic oil to loss of pump prime to bad pump or worn, stuck or bad components in the lift deck or even broken tubes where they run through the transmission. Is your transmission way overfull? That would be an indicator of a ruptured hydraulic pressure tube.
First thing I'd do is get new oil up to level. Then bleed the pump. Assuming this is a gasoline engine, remove the coil wire and the hex plug from the from of the hydraulic pump. Crank the engine until oil runs out the top of the pump. Replace the plug. see what happens.

In addition to what others have said, you can download an owner's manual online which will show the capacities and fill points. Go to Google and search for 'Ford 601 & 801 Series Tractors - Owner's Manual.pdf'
You shouldn't have to do anything special to get the lift to work. However check that the draft/position lever is set to position. If nothing happens you have to start checking stuff: fluid level O.K?, pump lost prime?, pump working? lift cover working? (stuck valving etc.)

Thanks soundguy. I think I seen the square head pipe plugs you talking about that you take them out when filling and when fluid comes out it's full.
Thanks again

I'll drain all the fluids tonight and start fresh. The tractor has been setting for a lot of years. Hopefully it's lost it's prime and I had know ideal that they could loose it's prime and you can bleed the
air out. Has the hydraulics got a like a sump screen or filter? Thank you very much for the info.

The selector is near the base of the position control quadrant/lever and should be pointing forward, parallel to the ground, for implement position mode. Down is for constant draft.

You guys are awesome. Everyone was right on the money and thanks so much for your help! Got to expect this kinda stuff buying a old tractor plus hasn't be run in about 6 or 8 years. Of course the carb is just ate up from the ethanol gas but the biggest thing is the hydraulics Is pumping all the oil in the transmission. So do I have to split the tractor or can I get to the lines that may be causing the trouble by taking the rock shaft housing off and am I on the right track with the bad lines. The lift arms will work but it will over fill the tranny and when the tranny gets over filled the lift arms quit working. Any suggestions?
Thanks

Neither! You only should need to remove the hydraulic manifold from the pump to the bell housing. These lines (you should only need to replace the pressure tube) are not accessible from the lift cover.
While I've never had to do this, the procedure has been detailed on this forum more than once. Maybe search for '801 hydraulic tube replacement.'

Wow Larry you just saved me a mountain load of work! I changed all the fluids and found all the sight level plug to know when all 3 sections are full. Bled the hyd. pump and the lift arms worked like a champ but after about 15 minutes of run time oil started coming out the transmission shifter boot. I shut down the tractor and removed the trans. fill sight plug and a lot of oil came out. and the hyd. oil level wasn't even touching the stick. Thanks for the info Arry

I can't figure out how to search or find the search box so I looked through 28 pages on this form but couldn't find anything. I'm sure it's on here Larry I just can find it. So if I take the manifold off the bottom of the pump and housing should I be able to see the tube?
